School History of W.W. Robinson Elementary School
On August 12, 1975, construction began on the W. W. Robinson Elementary School. The first principal was Mr. Waldo Bowers. The assistant principal was Mrs. Jane Swartz. The kindergarten classes were being held in the local churches. In the fall of 1976, the kindergarten classes moved into the north wing of the school. The rest of the school was not completed until February 1, 1977. Edinburg Elementary, part of Toms Brook Elementary and Woodstock Elementary moved grades 1- 4 here at that time. The enrollment of the school was 872.

W. W. Robinson Elementary School was named after Dr. Woodrow Wilson Robinson. He was superintendent of Shenandoah County Public Schools. Dr. Robinson began his teaching career in 1932 as a teacher in Washington County. His many jobs included classroom teacher, high school assistant principal, principal at several schools, college supervising and teaching, and superintendent of schools in Shenandoah County from 1957 to 1974. From 1974 to 1975, he was a consultant and staff member for Shenandoah County schools and Madison College (now James Madison University)

In 1990, eight rooms plus a computer lab, art room, guidance offices, and another gym were added to the building. Soon overcrowding began to be a problem. To solve that, the school had portable classrooms added. During the 1999 school year, construction was again in action to add classrooms, another computer lab, and a music/art room. The portable classrooms were then removed.

During the 2000-2001 school year, fifth grade moved from Peter Muhlenberg Middle School to W. W. Robinson Elementary School. Since the fifth grade and Early Childhood classes have joined us, our population usually averages over 1,100 students in PreK-5th Grade.
